The Chippewa River south of Eau Claire is a meandering, braided river with broad curves, multiple channels, wide beaches, sandbars, and oxbow lakes. One of the last rock outcroppings on the river is at Little Niagara Falls next to the University in Eau Claire. Half Moon Lake, an oxbow Lake once a curve of the river but left behind when the river carved a new channel and also in Eau Claire, is just downstream from Little Niagara.
